Description
English 4 is a comprehensive high school course that helps students explore the rich history and literature of Britain from the Anglo-Saxon period through the neoclassical era. Students examine how cultural and political contexts shaped major literary works, from Beowulf and Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales to Shakespeare’s plays and neoclassical poetry. The course also includes a variety of writing styles—creative, descriptive, expository, narrative, and persuasive—to help students refine their reading comprehension, writing skills, and grammar. Engaging lessons include direct instruction, close reading, writing activities, and interactive discussions that support students in analyzing themes, character development, and historical significance. Throughout the course, students complete performance tasks and a range of assessments in a feedback-rich environment that fosters their growth as thoughtful, skilled readers and writers.
